The challenge
The company approached us to create a component in their water filter jug. A foam filter acted as a pre-filter to catch larger sediments, before the water went into the main filter made from some fibrous material. They needed someone to manufacture the foam element from a WRAS-approved foam – the drinking water standard.
The enquiry went out into the marketplace.
We knew there were only a limited number of grades of the required foam that had been tested to this standard. Unfortunately, none of these were appropriate.
In recent years, our business in the development of water filtration technology has grown beyond expectation. Such rapid growth has only been achieved with the assistance of key partners, Technical Foam Services being such a partner.
Our solution
We also knew that there were some air filtration foams of the right grade. The German manufacturer said they had not had the foam WRAS-tested, but that we were welcome to do so if we paid for it. We were confident the foam would pass, and so invested several thousand pounds to have it tested to deliver to our client.
How it worked
The air filtration foam passed the WRAS test and we began working with the German manufacturer and our customer to produce their WRAS-approved water filter.
Yes, we foot the bill of the testing. It was the difference between winning the business or not; helping our customer solve their problem or not.

The results
The water filter is a high-volume product and sales are growing as we continue to work with this customer.
